Hot Apple Fritters

Hot Apple Fritters

Apple fritters…. That’s hot. The cooling down of the weather means one thing - crank up the heat in the kitchen. If you’ve been a little shy about a good ol’ fashioned shallow fry, now is the time to get adventurous. Our Cooking Oil is one for the job...a couple inches is all you need.

Ingredients:

Fritters:

1.5 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 heaping tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ginger

1/4 tsp allspice

Heavy sprinkle kosher salt

2 eggs

2 tbsp Chefs Life Cooking Oil (for batter)

1.5 cups milk (non-dairy works)

1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)

3 Honeycrisp or Gala apples, diced

Bittersweet Coffee Glaze:

2 cups powdered sugar

4 tbsp milk (non-dairy works)

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 tsp instant coffee

flaky sea salt

Black sesame seeds (optional)

Method:

In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients from flour to salt. Toss in the eggs, Cooking Oil, milk, and maple. Stir until the batter is smooth and no lumps remain. Fold in the diced apples evenly.

Heat a couple inches Cooking Oil in a large skillet. Using a tablespoon or cookie dough scoop, carefully drop in batter when the oil is hot and almost crackling. Cook on each side for 2-3 minutes, they will be golden brown. Drain on a paper towel to collect the excess oil.

Make the glaze by combining all ingredients in a small bowl and whisking together. Pour on top of the fritters while still warm. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and garnish with a handful of sesame seeds.
